S1.13 - Sailing to Tranquil Anchorages: From Palma to Es Caragol, Spain
July 19-20: Maintenance, Relaxation and Provisioning
Navigating boat maintenance is an art, especially when they arrive a day later than expected and on the same day the cleaners were also scheduled to arrive. However, our plans took an unexpected turn when we learned the cleaner had injured her foot at the last dock and was at the hospital.
In a state of panic, trying to get ready for our next training captain (Olivier Helliet), I had to dash for a long-awaited hair appointment, leaving Ryan to tackle the chaos. With messages pouring in about two cleaners showing up at different times and without supplies, the situation became a bit of a comedy. Thankfully, Ryan and managed to clean the guest room prior to Olivier’s arrival. Then he and Olivier (who graciously offered to help) completed the exterior cleaning together.
After the amusing turmoil, we, hot and slightly frustrated, finally took a breather with a drink before heading into town for a delightful dinner (again) at Merchants Steak Grill – a place worth noting for its outdoor patio experience, albeit at an extra 5 euros.
The following day was deemed a well-deserved break, filled with a leisurely walk downtown and last-minute provisioning. It was a day to recharge, reflect on the comedy of the previous day, and savor the simple pleasures of life on the water.
July 21: Farewell Marina, Hello Mooring Ball
With the maintenance complete, our vessel spit and polished, sporting new rigging to suspend the passerelle, we happily bid farewell to the marina. The departure was a bit 'sporty,' with our starboard side catching a neighboring boat's mooring line. Luckily, we managed to wiggle free without any harm and onto Cala Blava about 7 NM East to catch a mooring ball!
July 22-23: Sailing Bliss and Finding Tranquility
Setting sail at 10:30 am, Ryan hoisted both Main Sail and Gennaker. Killing the engines marked the beginning of a blissful ~4-hour journey. There is nothing like immersing yourself in the peacefulness hearing only the sounds of waves hitting the bow and wind against the sails.
As the winds played their whimsical tune, we sailed into Laguna Del Salobra (Ses Covetes) and anchored for the night. A serene sunset captured by Olivier added a perfect touch to our sailing adventure.
The following day, we made a quick stop in the quaint town of Colònia de Sant Jordi for provisions. We were relieved to finally have an easy dingy dock to tie up to and pick up what we needed for the next few days.
We then proceeded to Es Caragol to anchor for the night. Technical difficulties with our new shackle led us to use a soft shackle for our bridal, sparking a lively conversation with Olivier about doubling up on anchor lines. We enjoyed our quiet spot with just 3 other neighboring boats, celebrated our 60th night aboard Lucky Enough, and embraced the tranquility of the sea.
Let's raise a glass and celebrate this remarkable milestone together as we sail under the stars, creating memories that will last a lifetime. Here's to the adventures we've shared, the laughter that has echoed through these decks, and the bond that unites us on this incredible journey.
Here's to many more nights of joy, camaraderie, and unforgettable moments as we continue to explore the seas aboard our beloved Lucky Enough.
