S1.15 - A Week in Mallorca: Adventures and Reunions

July 30: Unexpected Discoveries
Anticipating Michelle and Byron’s return to Lucky Enough, Ryan and I got the boat all tidied up, jumped in our rental car and headed to Palma.

Alcúdia

Fist stop at a British Pub Steak House (more for the view than the food),

then pampered ourselves with a relaxing massage.  Feeling rejuvenated, our day took an exciting turn when we stumbled upon a uniquely “Canadian/Palmanian” experience at Tim Hortons.

Not only did we feel our Canadian connection, but they also happen to serve beer at this location!

Cold or Hot Brew

We enjoyed our cold brew, then went off to the airport to collect “the kids” as we endearingly call them.  The ride home was filled with recounting each other’s adventures during our time apart, then went back for a late dinner once again at 5 Oceanas.  Not only is it close to our boat, but the owners of this establishment are very kind and work hard, plus the food and service are outstanding.

July 31-Aug 2: Retail Therapy, Organization and Dingy Adventure
After the guys enjoyed a day of shopping and us girls took charge by conducting inventory and planning menus for the upcoming week, we decided to do some exploring.  Embarking on our longest dingy ride yet (11 miles), we set out to discover hidden gems along the shore.  Despite a minor setback of missing Cala Victoria (the sandy beach spot we meant to go to), we stumbled upon unexpected beauty and hilarity, including a nudist beach and mischievous local goats who playfully attempted to steal items out of everyone’s beach bags.  What a lovely afternoon.

The next day, high winds thwarted our plans for practicing man overboard which led us to spend the full day at the marina instead.  Turning setbacks into opportunities, we did the next best thing… Shop! Here we welcomed a new member to our family… a stylish blue Hikerboy Scooter that brings excitement to our adventures.  Ryan is stoked with our new purchase!

Aug 3 - Exploring Alcúdia
Venturing into old town Alcúdia, we immersed ourselves in the rich history of the Roman City of Pollentia where the entrance to La Portella stands tall above the winding streets and nearby market lined with shops, restaurants and boutique hotels.

A beautiful fortified historical city.

Alley Cat in the Carrer de Pollèntia

After climbing the rocky steps to the top of the fortress for a walk-about along the stone walls to view this beautiful historic fortified city, we continued to explore Carrer de la Roca, and enjoy the streets fully decorated with fluttering white flags creating an atmosphere of wonder and romance.
