S1.10 - Adventures in the Med: Discovering the Beauty of Formentera, Spain
Ahoy, fellow adventurers! It's time to recount the thrilling maritime escapades of our week-long account from June 28 to July 5. Buckle up as we navigate through salty seas, turbulent waves, and discover the hidden gems of Formentera.
June 28: Anchoring in Águilas
With paddle boards secured, our voyage kicked off on June 28, with the sea putting up a feisty show of salty sprays and rocky waves.
After enduring 14 hours of turbulence, we decided to drop anchor for the night in the quaint harbor of Águilas.
June 29-30: A Marathon Sail to Formentera
The following day, we embarked on our 30-hour journey from Águilas to Formentera.
Ryan and I took on the whole night shift as if we were a crew of 2, honing our skills for future solo adventures. Upon arrival, we found ourselves amidst a bustling crowd of larger yachts, tender races, and lively music. Formentera, a true party place, welcomed us with open arms.
July 1: Celebrating Canada Day in Formentera
On July 1, we celebrated Canada Day with a touch of exploration. Scooters became our trusty steeds as we roamed the enchanting landscapes of Formentera.
We were in awe at the abundance of intriguing caves along the shoreline just beckoning to be explored.
Back at the boat, a relaxing evening awaited, complete with tackling water maker issues and immersing ourselves in the allure of a stunning sailboat against the backdrop of a captivating sunset, creating a truly sexy and unforgettable experience.
July 2: Dinner with a View
Day anchoring, swimming, and tender rides to the beach marked our July 2 adventures. Seeking a serene spot, we nestled close to the shore, enjoying dinner with a breathtaking view. It’s amazing how close we look to the rocks when we are on the boat and get a different perspective from shore.
July 3: Snorkeling Treasures and The Lucky Bar Misadventure
July 3 brought underwater treasures from Ryan and Byron’s dive, while Michelle and I snorkeled in the Balearic Sea. We set our next anchor near Playa Migjorn – excited to take our Lucky Enough Crew to the Lucky Bar!
Our attempt to reach the Lucky Bar, however, turned into a thrilling misadventure with choppy waves and a temperamental tender engine. Sadly, we had to abort our mission.
Despite the setbacks, we pulled anchor once again and made it to Es Caló which provided a tranquil night, featuring a movie night under the stars and encounters with large jellyfish.
July 4: Independence Day at Tahiti Beach
Independence Day led us to the smoother waters of Tahiti Beach where we stocked up on groceries. We are quite amazed how so many beach towns lack convenient spots to anchor or tie up the tender.
Back on Lucky Enough, Ryan triumphed in his first Bosen chair lift which added a sporty touch to the day.
It’s very lovely here, but pretty busy, so although the water is calm, there is an annoying side note of wake turbulence from nearby speedy boats.
July 5: Calm Anchorage at La Revista and Our First Mooring Ball
July 5 offered a serene sail to La Revista, where a long sandy sparsely populated beach awaited. Looks like a great place to have dinner and massage!
After dinner, we moved to the other side of the island to find calmer waters and more gentle swells which concluded our week, crowned by the exhilaration of catching our first mooring ball.
