S1.11 - Ibiza: Marina Misadventures and Majestic Rocks

Frustration in Ibiza - July 6
Waking up to swells set the tone for a day that turned out to be more challenging than anticipated. Our original plans included getting fuel and picking up some packages at Marina Botafoch that had been awaiting our arrival, including our long-lost duvet & duvet cover that mysteriously disappeared onto the boat that left the marina the day before our maiden voyage. However, a seemingly simple day spiraled into a frustrating odyssey.

This particular marina kept shooing us away, not allowing us to temporarily park anywhere near a dock and forcing us to reevaluate our strategy. After circling for a couple of hours and attempting to approach in our tender instead, we finally retrieved the duvet but sadly discovered the missing $400 duvet cover had not been included in the ‘return to owner’ bag.

Hovering in the Bay

We always try to plan ahead and book space at marina’s but we are finding many won’t take reservations, so we asked to be put on a waiting list. With the marina playing hard to get, we finally received a call from them late afternoon about available space, leading to another hour of hovering and waiting for our escort to help us Moore only to be told it was a false alarm and once again we were turned away. We desperately needed to collect our packages leading to more tender adventures. Having to sneak onto a distant dock Ryan had to stealthily maneuver through the marina to finally complete his mission.

Packages in hand, exhausted and frustrated, we sailed to Cala des Jondal, finding solace in anchoring for the night.

July 7 - Rock Formation Wonders
Heading to the next anchorage, we explored areas around Isla de es Vedranell known for some great diving spots, but there was nowhere to anchor,…

… so we sailed around Sant Josep de sa Talaia, witnessing incredible rock formations.

We slowly made our way to the west side of the island and despite not having space at Sant Antoni de Portmany's marina,

along with a few failed attempts to secure a spot in the grassy bottom, we finally anchored for the night, battling strong winds and restless sleep.

July 8-9: Time to Regroup
Success came on July 8th with a marina slip, but our joy was short-lived as we encountered air conditioner issues and water troubles under our master bed. A day dedicated to problem-solving ensued.

We prepared for a crew change and did a short walk-about in Sant Antoni de Portamy.

July 10 - Alone at Last
Enjoying our first alone time on Lucky Enough before the arrival of our German friends tomorrow, we faced a hiccup when the marina's steel paccerell we borrowed fell into the water making for an eventful afternoon. After several unsuccessful “MacGyver attempts” at trying to reach it, poor Ryan succumbed to getting into his diving gear and descending into the murky waters to retrieve it. Thankfully I had the assistance of our neighboring Norwegian crew to help haul the heavy plank back up onto the high reaching dock.

A hot shower, massage, popcorn, and cuddling up to watch a movie made things better and capped off our first night alone.

PS: Happy 61st Wedding Anniversary Mom and Dad! As you continue to navigate the beautiful journey of marriage, may your love story be as enduring as the tides and as adventurous as a sail across the open seas. Wishing you fair winds and smooth sailing on this remarkable milestone. Cheers to many more years of love, laughter, and shared sunsets. ⚓🥂💑
