S1.4 - From San Sebastián to Bilbao: Smooth Docking, Tender Triumphs and Gelato Glamor
Our nautical journey from San Sebastián to Bilbao on May 29th set the stage for a day filled with docking grace, tender triumphs, and the discovery of Bilbao's vibrant charm.
Distance: 54.8 NM; Duration: 9h; Avg Speed 6.1kn
Ryan showcased his docking finesse as he gracefully guided Lucky Enough into her position for refueling and then expertly nestled her into our spot for the next few nights. It was a docking performance that glided like butter, marking Ryan's First Docking Victory.
Taking advantage of our docked status, we decided to add a new skill to my seafaring repertoire. Out came the tender, and under Ryan's guidance, I found myself driving a boat for the first time. I’m very grateful for a knowledgeable and patient husband by my side.
As the day unfolded, Ryan and I wrapped up our adventures with a glass of wine, perched on the bow in our trusty FatBoys, watching the sunset paint the sky with hues of orange and pink. Those chairs have become more than just a place to sit; they're a haven for moments like these.
For the next couple of days, we dove into a spree of cleaning, mall strolls, and shopping escapades. A humorous twist awaited our tender as Ryan, in a bid to thwart potential thieves, creatively transformed "Lucky Enough Tender" into a succinct and amusing new name: "UGH."
Our third day in Bilbao unfolded with a train ride into the heart of the city, where the iconic Guggenheim Museum beckoned.
The titanium-clad masterpiece dazzled, and nearby, a whimsical giant dog, aptly named "Puppy" crafted from live flowers and plants, stood tall, adding a touch of nature's artistry to the urban landscape. Marking the moment, we indulged in our first gelato. Now we understood the fuss – pure yummers!
Exploring downtown and strolling along the River Nervian, we encountered the old port and shipyard, stumbling upon a whimsical sight—a little partially sunken dinghy, displayed in jest, adding a touch of humor to our riverside adventure.
Stay tuned for more tales from our seafaring and city-hopping escapade as Lucky Enough continues to navigate the waters, leaving behind a trail of memories and unexpected delights.
